2026: Year One of Humanoids

GMO Internet Group —
fully committed to Physical AI.

In April 2026, one of Japan's largest
humanoid robot
research facilities
opened on the 11th floor of Cerulean Tower, Shibuya.
The lab maintains a permanent on-site lineup of the world's most advanced humanoid robots,
providing an unmatched, hands-on research environment.

Our goal is
to create a world-class environment where robot and AI engineers naturally gather
and inspire one another.

From here in Shibuya,
we accelerate the real-world deployment of next-generation robotics
at unprecedented speed.

Research themes

At this facility, members of "GMO AI & Robotics Corporation" (from GMO Internet Group's Group R&D Division)
and members of "GMO Various Robotics" come together, engaging day and night in frontline R&D.

  • Whole-body control

Learning motions that require advanced balance control

Our research acquires complex motions by combining imitation learning — which retargets human motion to robots — with state-of-the-art reinforcement learning.

  • Robot foundation models

Building systems for autonomous robot operation

We carry out R&D on robot foundation models that support autonomous robot behavior, and on Sim-to-Real transfer methods that span pre-training in simulators and environmental adaptation on physical hardware.

  • Robotics

Robot-system development with real-world operation in mind

In addition to localization and environment recognition using multiple sensors such as cameras, LiDAR and RTK-GNSS, we integrate control, path planning and simulation to research and develop systems that enable diverse robots to operate reliably in real environments. We advance development through simulation and on-hardware evaluation, seamlessly covering debugging, deployment and continuous operational improvement.
